3D printed knitwear by The Girl and the Machine

3D knitting machines are capable of knitting entire clothes without cutting, without sewing. Yarn in, garment out: no material is wasted. The Girl and the Machine uses these machines as 3D printers to enable local production in a network of machines. The combination of zero waste and the possibility to create garments on demand make 3D printed knitwear the most promising technique for the future of sustainable fashion.

The Girl and the Machine has created a collection that consists of lightweight jumpers, dresses and leggings in skin friendly merino wool. The Girl and the Machine’s signature knitted textures are created by merging traditional knitting techniques with high tech seamless 3D printed knit constructions. The result is relaxed chic knitwear for women who want to balance style, comfort and sustainability on a daily basis.

Modular collection

The Girl and the Machine offers a range of curated design options for stores to compose styles based on their specific taste, vision or clientele. The Girl and the Machine’s collection is the world’s first modular 3D knitwear collection ready for stores to buy.

Manufactured on demand

The Girl and the Machine knitwear is produced in a network of local production points, organized by New Industrial Order, laboratory for fashion on demand. Starting fall 2021 it will be possible to order from 1 piece quantity, opening the door to customized and made-to-measure production for luxury boutiques and concept stores.
