The Girl and the Machine Personal 3D Knitwear
LET’S CHANGE THE FASHION INDUSTRY
The Girl and the Machine is on a mission to turn the fashion supply chain upside down, by making 3D knitwear on demand. This way we aim to decrease today’s overconsumption and reckless production, that cause the devaluation of clothes and waste energy and resources.
We make fine, high-end personalized clothes to order. Not just your measurements, but also your personal style and preferences are incorporated in the production process. By producing only what you need, not more, we reduce stock and waste. We only use state of the art 3D knitting machinery which means no cutting, no seams, no waste. And by selecting fair yarns for you to choose from, we stimulate the demand for low-impact, renewable and fair trade raw materials.
TESTING OUR NEW SYSTEM
The first production round, early 2017, has given us a lot of insight in what it takes to get 3D knitting on demand to work properly. The larger part of the 200 personalized knitting-orders we processed manually. The programming of every personalized piece of 3D knit-code was also done manually. Needless to say, this will all have to be automated. We are now taking the first steps, in the configuration of garments from customer-input, as well as in the actual knit production.
From April 16th 2018 we should be able to handle a limited number of pre-orders again! Very soon you will find our new lookbook on this site, as well as the first version of our online ‘knitwear configurator’ and a How-to-measure e-learning tool.
